Traveling with a military burial flag
We understand the importance of honoring a military burial flag during your journey. To help ensure it is treated with the utmost respect and care, please keep these tips in mind:
Keep the flag folded and in its original presentation case whenever possible
- Pack the flag in your carry-on bag to protect it throughout your trip.
- Avoid placing the flag in overhead bins or cabin closets outside of your bag, as these areas often contain other items that could cause damage to the flag.
Inform TSA officers and airline staff that you are carrying a military burial flag
- This will allow them to assist you appropriately during screening and boarding.
- Advise the gate agent and flight attendant during boarding to help ensure the flag is safely stored.
Boarding
We welcome active duty military with ID to board the plane in Group 1 along with our customers in First.
Military working dogs
Military and police dogs working in detection, security enforcement and combat must be listed when you book your trip. We waive pet charges for trained active military dogs traveling in the cabin if they’re on official duty and have written documents.
Working dogs trained to attack are not permitted in the cabin and must be checked.
We accept checked pets at the ticket counter for active duty U.S. military traveling on assignment. Fees and restrictions apply.

Giving back
Our purpose is to care for people on life’s journey, which is why we work to make a difference in the lives of our heroes. We’ve partnered with the Gary Sinise Foundation, George W. Bush Institute, and the Medal of Honor Foundation to make positive change for those who sacrifice for our country.
