Check-In Options

Online Check-In

Online Check-In is available from the convenience of your home or the office saving you time at the airport. You can check in online using your name and booking reference, or by simply logging into your AAdvantage account.

You can also request to have your boarding pass sent directly to your mobile phone, eliminating the need for paper. Find out more about Mobile Boarding Passes and which airports currently offer this option.

Please note that if you are travelling with infants you will only be able to check in at the airport check-in desks.

International Flights

• You can check in online between 2 to 24 hours prior to the departure of your international flight

U.S. Domestic Flights

• When flying within the U.S., including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, Online Flight Check-In is available anytime between 40 minutes and 24 hours prior to departure Learn more about Online Check-In now

Self-Service Check-In

At The Airport

Our airport Self-Service Check-In machines offer a quick and convenient way to check in, select a seat, check bags, print a boarding pass and obtain an electronic receipt. Learn more about Self-Service Check-In.

At London Paddington Station

If you are flying from Heathrow you can also use the Self-Service Check-In machines at Paddington Railway Station in Central London before boarding the Heathrow Express train. The machines are located at the Heathrow Express ticket office on platforms 6 & 7. Once at Heathrow, proceed to the American Airlines bag-drop, Terminal 3, Zone F. If you only have carry-on luggage, you may proceed directly to departures.

Please note that if you are travelling with infants you will only be able to check in at the airport check-in desks.

International Flights

• For international flights you must check in at least 60 minutes before departure
• Check the list of worldwide cities and locations where we currently have Self-Service machines

U.S. Domestic Flights

• When travelling within the U.S., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands you must check in for your flight at least 30 minutes before departure.
  The following exceptions apply in some U.S. airports

Ticket Counter Check-In

If you require special assistance, are travelling with infants/pets or you would like the help of an AA check-in agent then please use our airport ticket counters.

International Flights

• For international flights you must check in at least 60 minutes before departure
• Check the location and opening hours of our Worldwide Ticket Counters

Domestic Flights

• When travelling within the U.S., Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and on all flights to Hawaii, check-in must be completed at least 30 minutes before departure.
  The following exceptions apply in some U.S. airports

Flagship Check-In At London Heathrow Airport

Flagship Check-In is available for First and Business Class passengers travelling on American Airlines. AAdvantage Executive Platinum® and oneworld Emerald members may also use this facility when travelling in Economy Class.
